"Environmentally Conscious Actions Result in Marked Reduction of Waste Needing
to Go to Landfill. Local Officials Applaud Company's Efforts."
Richmond, Indiana, July 11, 1996 - SANYO-Verbatim CD Company is pursuing an aggressive recycling program that
is resulting in dramatic reduction of waste at their facility. Terry Lainhart,
General Affairs Manager, introduced and implemented many of the steps the
replicator has taken to reduce the volume of solid waste. "We've always
recycled trash at our facility, but since 1991 we've implemented a comprehensive
program that targets almost every facet of plant operations that produce
significant amounts of waste," remarks Lainhart. "SANYO-Verbatim CD Company's
efforts have resulted in a recycling rate of total solid waste of over 65%
on average since inception."
SANYO-Verbatim CD Company prides itself on being an environmentally conscious company by reducing waste and by recycling as much as possible. SANYO-Verbatim CD Company is known to have implemented one of the most successful recycling efforts in the business. "It's incredible to think of all of the different categories that we focus our recycling efforts on," continues Lainhart. "From pop cans to corrugated cardboard and sputtered discs to shrink-wrap, we recycle everything here and have really reduced the amount of waste going to the landfill."
The SANYO-Verbatim CD Company recycling operation has been so successful that the facility's current recycling levels already surpass the voluntary state recycling mandates for the year 2001. The state of Indiana established voluntary mandates requiring reduction in waste being sent to landfills. They have asked for reductions of 35% for 1996 and a 50% reduction by year 2001. SANYO-Verbatim CD Company has already met and surpassed these mandates and, in fact, achieved this accomplishment shortly after enacting their recycling program. In fact as early as 1993, SANYO-Verbatim CD Company recycled 76% of all solid waste generated at their facility.
SANYO-Verbatim CD Company also makes a conscientious effort to buy recycled materials that can be used at the plant. This process is ongoing and is being encouraged through training awareness programs within the SANYO-Verbatim CD Company facility, so that employees at every level have a full appreciation of the benefits of recycling.
"Our current recycling successes have given us even more incentive to search out production methods within which we may discover more efficient ways of doing business," concludes Lainhart. "Our recycling efforts are helping out the environment and are actually saving us money. Now that's what I call a win-win situation."
